Our Story

The Origins of Seafoodia

David Sussmann started Seafoodia in Rhode Island, USA. A strong relationship is forged with the fishermen of Newfoundland, building a lasting partnership and making his first sale, more than 400 kg of groundfish. Already his taste for adventure and entrepreneurial dreams are pushing him to look further afield.

David sets up offices in Paris, where he sells more than 4000 tonnes of deep-sea fish.

Marseille, home at last

He sets off for Marseille, David Sussmann’s birthplace, his cultural roots, his home port and where he wants to shine the light of his modern entrepreneurial vision. By quickly becoming a key player on the international market, he brings a new focus to the fish trade in this ancient Greek city.

Norway

Opening of an office in Norway.

Seafoodia becomes the first Canadian seafood exporter to China.

Strong growth

Marketing of 40% of Canada’s total Mackerel quota.
The magazine “Produits de la Mer” declares Seafoodia as the French business that has shown the strongest growth over the past 4 years.

 

“Prix de l’Ambition”

Seafoodia is awarded the Tribune’s “Prix de l’Ambition” (Ambition Prize), an award given to businesses who particularly shine in the fields of innovation, international affairs and sustainable development.
Opening of the Moroccan subsidiary.

The group decided to humanize its workplace by placing the well-being of its employees at the heart of its mission.

Team spirit

Seafoodia is chosen by the Société Générale bank, European leader in international transactions, to illustrate its national “Team Spirit” campaign.

New partnerships

The 1200 fishermen of Prince Edward Island, Canada, entrust the marketing of their famous “PEI” label for lobster to Seafoodia.

Seafoodia receives the Great Place to Work® label within the less than 50 employees category in France. It develops its 10 year vision in co-construction with the Seafoodlovers.

Responsibility Plan

Change of company name to become Seafoodia (previously Seafoodexport).
Seafoodia creates its Responsibility Plan with commitments on 3 key themes : Environment, Human Happiness and Nutrition.

Latin America

Opening of an office in Latin America.

 

Argisfood

End of 2018, the SEAFOODIA group expanded by acquiring ARGIS GALAC’SEA (now ARGISFOOD), a family-owned company based in Lorient, France.
ARGISFOOD is specialized in sourcing of healthy and sustainable food solutions from both land and sea.
