Our story

1996 

The Origins of Seafoodexport

David Sussmann started Seafoodia in Rhode Island, USA. A strong relationship is forged with the fisherman of Newfoundland, building a lasting partnership and making his first sale, more than 400 kg of groundfish. Everything takes off quickly, the business grows rapidly and David's passion for seafood starts to play a major role in his and his family's lives. Already his taste for adventure and entrepreneurial dreams are pushing him to look further afield.

1997

Return to France

In the spirit of the pioneers, David and his wife Amy, leave the New World, for the old… Seafoodia sets out to conquer Europe, in particular France, its founder's home country. He sets up offices in Paris, on the Seine, in order to establish a prestigious branch. He sells more than 4000 tonnes of deep-sea fish. From that point on, he's unstoppable: He sets a heading for Marseille, his birthplace, his cultural roots, his home port and where he wants to shine the light of his modern entrepreneurial vision. By quickly becoming a key player on the international market, he brings a new focus on the fish trade in the ancient Greek city.

1998

Marseille, home at last

He chose Marseille to set up the group headquarters, with his mind set on conquering the world.

1999

Canada & Norway

Opening of subsidiaries in Canada and Norway. (1999 to 2002)

2004

China & Seafoodexport

Seafoodexport becomes the first Canadian seafood exporter to China.

2005

Strong growth

Marketing of 40% of Canada's total Mackerel quota.
The magazine "Produits de la Mer" declares Seafoodia is the French business that has shown the strongest growth over the past 4 years.

2007

Morocco

Opening of the Moroccan subsidiary.

2009

“Prix de l'Ambition”

The “Prix de l’Ambition” (Prize of Ambition) de la Tribune is awarded to Seafoodexport, a prize given to businesses which particularly shine in areas of innovation, international affairs and sustainable development.

2010

Employee well-being

The group decided to humanise its workplace by setting the well-being of its employees at the heart of its mission.

2013

Team spirit

Seafoodia is chosen by the Société Générale bank, European leader in international transactions, to underpin its national “Team Spirit” campaign.

2014

New partnerships

The 1200 fishermen of Prince Edward Island, Canada, entrust the marketing of their famous “PEI” label lobster to Seafoodia.

2016

A company where it’s great to work

Seafoodia receives the Great Place to Work® label within the less than 50 employees category in France.
It developed its 10 year vision in co-construction with the Seafoodlovers.

2017

Responsibility Plan

Change of company name to become Seafoodia (previously Seafoodexport).
Seafoodia creates its Responsibility Plan with commitments on 3 key themes : Environment, Human Happiness and Nutrition.
